American Lodge, A Country House

American Lodge, A Country House

Design Vision

Earthy, natural textures of stone and exposed wooden beams stand out when contrasted with the light, cool effect of coral fabrics and teal grasscloth.

Design Challenges

Designing the layout of furnishings to encourage conversation despite the large open plan and filling the voluminous spaces to feel inviting. Using a combination of strong colors, textures and large-scale lighting helps bring comfort and gracious living to the large space.

Designer Show House II

Designer Show House II

Design Vision

Guests walking the garden path from the great house to elegant French inspired guest quarters are greeted with French-style furnishings and a spare, modern color palette of soft lavenders and grays.

Design Challenge

Taming the strong yellow maple wood floors was a challenge. Lavender, being a complimentary color of yellow, calmed the maple floors and created more harmony between the room’s elements. Similarly, creating tall valanced draperies over small windows helped enlarge the feel of the space. A faux fireplace was installed to add architectural interest and anchor the sitting area. By keeping it within the same soft color palette, the effect is very calming.

Christmas at the Country House

Christmas at the Country House

Design Vision

Drake Interiors set the tradition for Christmas decorations in the client’s new home.  Elizabeth, being an avid Garden Club member, was inspired to create unique floral arrangements that bespoke of the home’s coral & teal color palette. The grand fireplace mantel was styled with large magnolia garlands, pheasant feathers & coral ribbon. Copper mantel pots filled with magnolia leaves, dried rosey hydrangea and orange winterberry stems. The coral ribbon was carried over to style the tree where the family’s favorite ornaments were hung for display.

Design Challenge

Transitioning traditional Christmas over to the color palette of the home’s interiors.

Paris is a Picnic

Paris is a Picnic

DESIGN VISION

In reference to his Paris Café Society days of the 20’s, Hemingway described Paris as a “moveable feast”. For this Hemingway-themed fundraiser, our designer vignette of “Paris is a Picnic” is brought to life by coating the cafe chair seats, café tabletop, baker’s rack shelves, and the floor of the pillared pantheon in lush green grass—a Paris Park in miniature.

A slatted park bench, staged picnic & starry twinkle lights on the pantheon dome complete the look. Red geraniums fill the tandem bike Hemingway and his wife rode to a Paris park for a picnic, the bright red floral effect working with black and white stripes to tell the visual story of the 20’s in a Paris Park.

DESIGN Challenge

Overcoming the visual obstacle of an unattractive sliding glass doors by transforming it into a courtyard cafe and complete with black & white awning. This grass-covered space evoked Paris in the 1920’s.
